Isn't it awful when some sour looking security officer 'pulls you over' and asks to 'test your fluids'. I nearly fainted when that happened! Turned out they wanted to make sure my perfume was perfume and not mace or cobra venom or something, and 'testing' used half the bottle! Wonder what they'd have made of lube?

Thanks for an enlightening read, I must confess to being ignorant of this lady and her work, Although I have heard of Voltaire, That may be because I am a male.
I think women are more aware of successful women because many consider them to be disavantaged, discriminated against and obstructed by the "Glass Ceiling".
Society has always practiced gender stereotyping and probably always will.
Things are changing, albeit slowly, We are seeing women moving into more traditional masculine roles.

The reverse is less true methinks,
It seems to be the woman who is chosen to work with children and the man who is percieved to be a risk, simply due to his gender.

While we have deep seated prejudice and narrow minds, this world will stay the way it is.

Thank you both for your comments! I agree that there are many motivations for adultery. And I don't even like the word itself because it carries too many negative connotations.

I also believe that there is more than one person in the world we can love and sometimes we find that other person, whether we are looking or not. So whatever has happened in the primary relationship to kill the love that was there initially has left the field wide open for another person to step in and fill the gap.

What you wrote about adultery "hit home" with me. I have believed for quite some time that my wife cheated me, the same as if she cheated on me. I was denied the physical relationship I needed. You undertand that!

I think, too, that your points about boredom, about excitement, about....well, about everything you wrote, are well made and are important points. Years go an acquaintance once told me that he thought most men AND most women, committed adultery out of a need to feel adequate--that is, a need to feel attractive to the opposite sex, or, perhaps a need to believe he/she could still attract someone for sexual reasons. Well, yes. Maybe. But I thought that begged the question. THE question, I thought and still think, was/is why should one have that feeling of inadequacy if one's spouse/significant other was there for you, with you, in you, on you. I don't think men or women feel inadequate without reason--assuming that a feeling of inadequacy is a reason at all for enaging in an adulterous relationship (Note that I did not say "a reason for COMMITTING adultery. "Commiting adultery" carries the opprobrium of "sin." I do not accept that adultery is "sin." Since I do not believe in a personal god, I leave feelings of "sin" to others to sort out.)

In such a severely youth-oriented culture as ours, both men and women get obsessed with the fear of being unattractive, over-the-hill, as they age. Fear of losing capacity and options for sex may drive the quest to gain affirmation that one is still, after all, able to perform and desirable to someone else.

It would be interesting to know the implications of adultery in those who accept and embrace aging versus those who do not. I would speculate that many of both groups will eventually seek sex outside of their marriages, but with rather different notions of the meaning of it in terms of betrayal, sin, etc. Fear and self-doubt drives the upset meter that impedes growth and understanding. Or so I'd say . . .

Then it occured to me, that I had signed mine as anonymous, mainly because I am not a registered user of this system. So I have come to the decision that what could put us in a bad light is the pseudonyms, Handles, Nicknames etc. WHAT are we trying to hide?

as a skirt & kilt wearing male, i feel i have to address this.

first off: i'm 50, hetero, married with kids. i don't try to present myself as female, but many items of "female" clothing are fun. my co-workers have no doubts as to my preferences, but i don't push anything onto anybody.

now, the photo of that guy's butt? humorous but potentially offensive. this is YOUR forum/blog/whatever, so you can put on it what you wish. i wouldn't feel any different if it was a female butt of similar age & condition. i could do without it, thank you very much.

when was the last time you saw a gay man in a skirt? unless they are doing "drag" (and then they are in FULL female hootchie regalia) most men won't wear a skirt. gay or straight. if anything, gay men may be even more conservative in their clothing. many will avoid anything that might "out" them INADVERTANTLY.

incidently, the flashing of one's butt is fairly common amongst kilt-wearers. going "regimental" (no underwear) is one of the points some would say is actually required of kilting. flashing becomes a humorous punctuation to some conversations or situations.

I was surprised at the reaction of [Imadude] to the picture of a mans bum! and the assumption that because a guy is showing his backside he must be gay. This is almost as presumptive as those who think a man in a skirt must be gay. Some are, some ain't. it is a simple as that. Anyway, what if he is gay? How does that do a diservice to the cause?
I am sorry but I have to disagree with the inference that it puts us male skirt wearers in a bad light. A regular drunken saturday night prank here in the town centres is for "straight macho" guys to wave their bums at the security cameras, If you suggested to them they were gay, you would be on your way to casualty!.
